So now on to the half a snowball. No there is no snow here yet in New England (thank goodness)! I was asked by a few bloggers about my Hugs and Kisses Quilt and what the pattern was. Well….I made it up. I saw a photo of a quilt I liked and said “I can do that”. I put a five inch food square face up and a 2 1/2 inch white square diagonally in each corner. then I marked and sewed corner to corner on each white square. I cut off the ends and flipped and ironed the block flat. That is the only block in the whole quilt! Yup it was that easy!!!  If my directions seem a little fuzzy scroll down and click on the link to Lyn’s blog. I called my quilt hugs and kisses because I made it for my daughter and when we sign Christmas and Birthday cards we add oxoxox (hugs and kisses) with our signatures.

Hint: If you look closely at my blocks they do not match. Each and every block does not line up by 1/4 inch. I did not realise that would happen until all the blocks were finished. You should cut your white fabric at 2  3/4 inches instead 2 1/2. I am not a math mathematician and I sure wish I had found Lyn Brown’s website before I started sewing my quilt. Please visit her HERE. SEW Daughter is actually a play on words and here is my story…

My mother took a few quilting classes at our local quilt shop. There she heard about the North Parish Quilters Guild. We decided to attend a meeting together. I did not know any one there but my Mom recognized several faces. All of the ladies were so nice. Since the we have become members. At one meeting a few ladies came up to me throughout the night and said “I did not know that your Sylvia’s daughter!” Then they commented how great it was that mother and daughter quilted together. The next day I was trying to come up with a savvy, creative, inspiring, super great blog name……I was stumped! I love creative blog names like sew creative where the “so” is replaced by “sew”. I also follow Quilt Dad and Sew Mama Sew. Both great names that are easy to remember. I put all of those ideas together in one big pot and give it a stir and SEW Daughter was born. My Moms initials are S.E.W and I am her daughter. It is east to say and I feel that as a new quilter I am like a daughter learning from all the great quilt Moms and Dads in blogland.

My hubby seems to think that because my wall hanging has a green border that it must be Christmas. Even after I explained to him that the green fabric has witches, bats, and pumpkins all over he still replied with “Halloween should be orange and black”. I then explained to him that he does not have to like it because I love it! I also promised that next year I will make an orange and black one for him……little does he know that I will be making him a wall hanging of a large witche’s behind!

The holly berry fabric is Once Upon a Christmas by Susan Winget for Benarte.

I chose DMC floss #347. It is a mellow red and matches perfect with the berries.

I started my first embroidery project one year ago in October. It was a Halloween make-it-and-take-it from my Quilt Guild meeting. I enjoyed it so much that I started on a one year BOM embroidery quilt called Birdie Stitches. Then I made an embroidered name tag for my September Guild meeting which I will share with you tomorrow. Now I am very excited to join SewHappy.Me in her SewHappy Christmas Sewalong It starts on September 23 and I feel like a kid at Christmas and want it to start NOW! (feet stomping and lips pouting). I was able to get some great coke fabric from a vendor at a local quilt show. I have a lot of scraps left over and that pile is the start of my red, white, and black quilt. I have no clue what pattern I will use or even what year it will be compleated.

Whenever there’s fun there’s always coca-cola… yeah!

My dear friend Lisa is expecting a baby girl in October. Her baby shower is this weekend and I actually finished the quilt with plenty of time left over to make a matching taggy blankie. She already has 2 boys and 3 nephew. Isabella is the first baby girl in the family in many years so the quilt had to be over the top girly pink!
